In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is more important than ever that spirometry devices are completely clean and decontaminated when necessary. A recent ERS Statement recommends using a high specification disposable in-line bacterial and viral filter (with minimum proven efficiency for high expiratory flow of 600 to 700 L/min). Vitalograph’s BVFs meet the standards outlined by the ERS. We recommend using a new bacterial viral filter (BVF) for every patient using a spirometer or respiratory monitor. The outside surfaces of your Vitalograph device and flowhead may be cleaned with a 70% isopropyl alcohol impregnated cloth to remove any visible soiling and for low level disinfection.
If you suspect your device has become contaminated, or if a higher level of decontamination of your device is required, here are instructions on how to clean your Spirometry devices correctly.
